Hello everyone! I hope your new year is starting off well, or at least better than last year! To start the new year, I thought it would be fun to dive into a different kind of makeup: high-end makeup. This review would be the first on this blog for high-end makeup.
The high-end cosmetic beauty product that I will review today is by a famous French brand named Lancome. I will be testing out one of their liquid foundations; their Maquicontrole Oil-Free Liquid Foundation.
I have only tried one other French cosmetic product, so if I like this one, I will definitely have to try more of them. If you have a French product or brand that you like that you think I should try, let me know in the comments below 🙂.
Cost: French cosmetics are high-end, so they do cost considerably more. This foundation costs $31 – $40.
Amount of Product: 35 ml, 1.2 ounces.
Packaging: This foundation comes in a glass jar with a Twist off top. It has a rose design on the front as well as on the top. I love the roses on the foundation because it makes this foundation look very elegant. One downside to this packaging though is that it is unhygienic for personal use. However, if you are a makeup artist, this packaging is perfect since you can scoop out as much product as you need without contaminating all of the product, and it is easy to keep it hygienic between clients.
Shades: I only found six shades online; shades one through six. At the time, I had a hard time finding darker shades, so I bought shade 4, which I am reviewing here. The small shade range is of course an issue since it basically only caters to a small percentage of people who have very fair light skin tones; this leaves a lot of potential customers unavailable to this brand.
How This Foundation Looks On The Skin
My skin has changed once again and is now normal, but there are areas that are dry, such as around my eyes and mouth area.
Review/Final Thoughts
This foundation is too light for my skin tone, so if you have darker skin, I recommend getting shade five or six.
The formula for this foundation comes out watery initially, but it does not move around like water does once it is on the skin; in fact, this foundation is very easy to blend out and spread on the face; it dries quickly and sets after about 1 or 2 minutes so that the foundation will not likely transfer very much. This foundation sets as if it has powder in it, so you do not have to set it with powder once you are finished; this is a great feature of this foundation because even if you touch your face, the foundation will stay put and it will not be removed. Since you do not have to add powder on top of this foundation, it also saves you time applying your makeup.
This foundation did not cake or settle into any dry areas on my skin, but it did make me look quite ashy and ghostly.
This foundation is a very natural-looking foundation; it looks and feels as if you are not wearing anything.
While wearing this foundation, my skin felt moisturized and this foundation smoothed out my skin and evened out my complexion.
This foundation did significantly reduce the appearance of dark circles and it did not settle into the lines underneath my eyes.
This foundation can be layered to reach full coverage, though you will need to layer it quickly since it dries fast. This is the perfect foundation for film and doing makeup on actors since it looks perfect on camera, and it will save you time since it sets as if powder was applied with it. So this is a fast foundation to apply; it saves you time and steps. Be careful though to make sure that you fully blend out the foundation, because where you do not, it will set and dry patchy.
One downside to this foundation is that you will need to use a lot of it because it dries and sets very quickly.
All in all, in terms of coverage and application, this is a great foundation. In terms of cost, since you will need quite a bit of this foundation each time you use it, it is not very cost-effective. Furthermore, due to the extremely small shade range, I think this foundation will not complement most people. If you are very light-skinned and pale with a pink undertone, then this may be a great foundation for you, but even most Americans have more yellow in their skin tone than what this foundation has, so I recommend this foundation for people with very pinky pale light skin tones, but for others, I do not think that this Loreal Maquicontrole line will work for you.
