Fruit is one of those foods that can be extremely valuable for dieting and weight loss. Fruits contain many essential nutrients that the body needs to function properly such as copper, zinc, iron, fiber, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium, folic acid, calcium, manganese, selenium, and vitamins A, B, C, and E. Fruits also help curb strong sugar cravings since they are sweet, but not always high in calories. Furthermore, fruits can also help balance our meals. However, it is important to understand that not all fruits are good for dieters because some contain a lot of carbs, sugar, and calories. Best Low-Calorie Fruits For Effective Weight Loss

Watermelon

Watermelons are not as sweet as other fruits. It is only 46 calories for a cup of diced watermelon.

Strawberries

One cup of strawberries is around 50 calories.

Tangerines

One tangerine can range between 40 – 64 calories.

Oranges

Oranges range in calories from 45 – 87 calories each, so it is similar to peaches and raspberries in terms of calories. Mandarin oranges are smaller, so they contain fewer calories. One mandarin orange is less than 50 calories. I love mandarin oranges because they are sweet, taste good, and are small and easy to peel anywhere. You do not need a knife to peel mandarins so they are great in lunch boxes or when traveling around.

Clementines

I love clementines since they are similar to mandarin oranges, but are smaller. I love the taste of clementines and I find them to be sweeter and juicier. One clementine is only 35 calories, so it is similar to guava in many ways.

Plums

I absolutely love plums. I use them as a sauce in foods. I love plums with rice in Japanese plum onigiri. I love them in wine, such as the Japanese plum wine, and I also eat them alone. Did you know that there are plums of various colors? There are black Japanese plums, the purple and red plums that can be found throughout the United States, and there are even yellow, green, and orange plums.

One plum is only 30 calories, so it is a great fruit to eat when you have a sweet tooth, but are on a diet and can only eat low-calorie foods.

Nectarines

Nectarines range in calories from 57 – 69 calories each, so they are a good low-calorie sweet snack to have on hand when you have a sweet tooth.

Peaches

One peach can range in calories from 51 – 69 calories, so they make great snacks for dieters.

Raspberries

One cup of raspberries is around 65 calories.

Blackberries

One cup of blackberries is only 62 calories. I love the tart sweetness of blackberries.

Passion Fruit

I love passion fruit. When I used to go to bubble tea cafes, I used to order this a lot. Passion fruits are delicious and sweet, and one passion fruit is only 17 calories, so it is a great snack when you have a sweet tooth.

Guava

Guava is a fruit that some of you may not be familiar with, but it is popular in Taiwan and Mexico. Guavas are a smaller fruit that looks like an apple in terms of color, but it has the size and texture of an orange. One guava is only around 38 calories, so it makes a nice snack.

Cherries

Cherries are tart, but they are an amazing fruit. They taste wonderful in fruit juice, with ice cream and shakes, and with coffee and whipped cream. One cup of cherries is only 51 calories, so they are a deliciously wonderfully decadent fruit.

Final Thoughts

I love fruit, but like all things, it can not be eaten excessively. Fruits today are not like they used to be in ancient times. We now have foods that are sprayed with chemicals and pesticides, so fruit can be very unhealthy, especially when it is not organic. The large amount of sugar in some fruits can also be a big issue for people with diabetes, as well as those suffering from health conditions, so it is best to be cautious and eat fruit in small amounts. I mostly eat citrus fruits when I want the vitamin C that they contain, or I eat them when craving sugar, so if you are trying to lose weight, it is best to eat healthier fruits like the ones in this list that will help satisfy your cravings, and make your weight loss goals more attainable!

Good luck on your health and weight loss journey!
