Hello, everyone! Skincare is one of the most popular topics that we talk about here on this site. And for good reason because your skin represents what is raging inside of your body that you may not be able to see. Your skin represents your internal and external health and beauty. When it comes to having health, prevention is and always will be the best medicine. You can prevent skincare issues before they start by starting with a good hygiene and nightly routine. So, the most effective prevention that you can do to have clearer, blemish-free skin is to start with a good cleansing routine.
Working and going outside in the elements can greatly take down your skin over time, which makes a good cleansing routine even more pivotal. I work more today than I did when I originally started this site years ago; I work 7 days a week now and I am outside much more, so not only do I have little free time, but my skin is exposed to far more hazards from my work environment, including harsh strong chemicals, cigarette smoke, bacteria, viruses, waste, and toxins. As a result, I have changed my skincare routine to be as effective as possible in as little time as possible. So, today I will teach you all my updated cleansing skincare routine that I have been using for the last year that has helped my skin to continue to glow, stay smooth and youthful, and remain blemish-free!

Step 1: Makeup Removal
A lot of makeup today is advertised as waterproof/water resistant, long-lasting, and sweatproof. Whether you get a cheaper brand or a more expensive cosmetic brand, this still tends to be the case. What this means is that some of your makeup will remain on your skin, even after washing because the makeup has stronger adhesion properties. This means that water alone wont remove your makeup, and even some soaps, especially moisturizing soaps and soaps that are more gentle and less stripping, won’t be able to remove the makeup from your skin.
Complete makeup removal is crucial though because your makeup for the day contains various germs, bacteria, and even viruses. Every time the wind blows, the wind leaves dust, germs, bacteria, and even small tiny bugs on your skin, which can get caught on the makeup and can stay on your skin the whole day. If the makeup stays on your skin overnight, little tiny bugs can burrow into your skin while you are sleeping and cause pits in your skin, as well as acne, rashes, pimples, and breakouts.

Thus, every day makeup, dirt, and bacteria that get on the surface of your skin must be removed fully. This should be the first step in your nightly skincare cleansing routine. There are 3 main ways that I remove my makeup at the end of each day.
~ Apply Toner: Applying toner to a cotton square and running it all over your face is a great way to remove foundation, concealer, and makeup with a thick consistency. Toner tends to be stronger, but not as stripping as regular soap, so it is strong enough to remove makeup deep from your pores. You should avoid toner on the eyes though because the eyes are very sensitive and toner can be too harsh for them; Toner may burn if it gets into your eyes, especially if it is not an organic, natural, or hypoallergenic toner.
~ Create A Mixture of Oil and Water: Mixing water and oil together and using it to wash your face is a great way to break up difficult makeup and lift it out of your skin’s pores. Mixing water with oil will help to spread the oil out as well so that the water can move around your face easily and smoothly like how normal soap does. The oil will also be safe for the eye area. Oils that I recommend for this are olive oil, castor oil, or almond oil.
~ Apply Makeup Remover: Makeup remover is strong enough to remove makeup from deep out of your pores, but unlike simple oil, some makeup removers may burn your eyes when they come into contact with them. I have sensitive skin, so I have to be careful what I allow to come into contact with my eyes. Many soap products and makeup removers have burned my eyes when I used them, so if you have skin sensitivities, I recommend using oil instead of makeup remover.

Step 2: Deep Clean Your Skin
We wash our bodies every night with astringent medicinal soaps like soaps with salicylic acid in them or soaps made with essential oils or salt. We even wash our hair with shampoos that are strong enough to remove hair product buildup or with strong ingredients like Zinc Pyrithione and peppermint like Head N’ Shoulders. But when it comes to our face, we tend to be afraid to do any real cleansing to it, even though our face is exposed to more germs than the rest of our body because we wear clothes to cover and protect the rest of our body; Your face does not get any shield to protect it from bacteria or pollutants in our environment. Our face is fully exposed to the elements, bugs, germs, viruses, and pollution all day long, so it is important to deep clean ALL of our skin, and not make our face an exception to the rule.
Now I will share with you all my updated nightly skincare routine that I have been using for the last year that helps keep my skin healthy and glowing.
- Step 1: I remove my makeup with makeup remover wipes or an oil and water mixture.
- Step 2: I wash my skin with a natural herbal astringent to deep clean my pores. The product I use for this is Barbara Frank’s Natural Herbal Lotion. I mix the Natural Herbal Lotion with my face soap and wash my entire face, even the area around my eyes with it. Because of the oils in this product, this product tends to remove any remaining eyeliner as well. If I still have some really stubborn eyeliner remaining, then I apply a little castor oil around my eyes and on the upper eyelid, which removes all eyeliner instantly and it is nourishing for the eyelashes, so this routine also helps my eyelashes to grow and stay strong. I leave the castor oil on my eyes over night while I sleep.
- Step 3: Lastly, I run toner over my skin on a cotton square. The toner will remove any remaining oil from my pores and it will clean deep into my pores.
With these 3 steps my skincare cleansing routine is finished. However, you may find that your skin feels a bit drier after deep cleaning it, so then it is important to remoisturize your skin after cleansing it. When we finish bathing each day, we usually add lotion or oil to our skin to remoisturize it after using stripping soaps, so naturally, we should do the same for our face.

Step 3: Remoisturize Your Skin After Deep Cleansing
After washing your face, it is good practice to remoisturize your skin and put some oil back into the skin layer. Here are the 3 main ways that I have been using to remoisturize my skin before bed after a deep cleaning.
~ Apply Barbara Frank’s Rose Beautifying Cream: If you like floral scents before bed, this can also be a very soothing product for you. This product is also like medicine for your skin. If pimples or a rash have appeared on my face, I always apply this product to my face before bed.
~ Apply Lavender Oil: My favorite floral scents are rose and lavender, so I often alternative between this product and Barbara Frank’s Natural Rose Beautifying Cream. Lavender is a gentle essential oil, so I tend to use it more when my skin is in good condition and I have no pimples or breakouts.
~ Apply Oil: Applying oil to the skin can replenish the natural oils beneath our skin layer, which can help our skin naturally look glowy and be well moisturized. My favorite go to oils for this are coconut oil, castor oil, apricot oil, papaya seed oil, and oil body butters.

Final Thoughts
We are always told to treat our face like it is fragile glass, but our faces endure the worst bacteria and chemical exposures, compared to any other part of our body. Our faces are not covered like the rest of our body, so the face gets exposed to far more harmful things and for very long periods of time, so it is crucial to care for your face even more closely and to be more picky and particular about its care than any other part of your body.
It is good practice to deep clean the whole body each day that you go outside, including the face. Deep cleansing allows you to remove and lift pathogens and bacteria out of the skin that can get deep into the skin layer. It is also equally important to find a balance. If you pull things out of your skin or strip it with an astringent, then give back to your skin with healing oils and creams to remoisturize it. Your skin should go through a regular renewal process; There should always be a give and take. Take out some things and put some things back in.
Once you find the right balance for your skin, you will find that your skin will be in a better place and will naturally look healthier, be more vibrant and radiant, and breakouts will become a more rare occurrence, rather than a daily struggle. Clear skin is at your finger tips; it simply takes some learning, care, and good daily life health practices!
