Cruelty-Free Cosmetic Product Review: Wet N Wild Photofocus Foundation – Makeup Made In The USA

Hello everyone! Today I will be doing a foundation review for you all on a very popular inexpensive drugstore brand: Wet N Wild. I bought two different shades of the Wet N Wild foundation to test out: Desert Beige and Cocoa.

Generally, any shade with the name “Beige” in it, usually refers to shades for Caucasian or Asian skin tones, but this was the darkest shade that they had available in the drugstore at the time, so I bought it. A few days later, I bought one of the dark shades online that was not in the store. I bought the shade Cocoa.

Cost: $2-$8 each, depending on where you buy it.

Shades: There are 20 shades available online. Unfortunately, out of all those shades, only about five are for tan or dark skin tones. These darker shades are Cocoa, Mocha, Toffee, Espresso, and Mahogany.

I will review each shade that I bought separately in this review since I got such different results with each of them.

Let’s start with Desert Beige since it is the first shade that I bought.

The Shade Wet N Wild Desert Beige

Color: This foundation claims that it was tested to not have photo flashback, but it actually does have flashback, at least it does when the shade is lighter than your skin tone. This shade left a white cast and it was way too light and white on my skin. I think if you have a Caucasian or Asian skin tone, then you probably will not have flashback, so whether you have flashback or not depends on getting the right shade for your skin tone.

Dry Skin: As you can see in the photo, this foundation did cling to the dry patches near my mouth from facials that I did the day before, so this foundation is not a good choice for those with dry skin.

Dark Circles: This foundation did reduce the appearance of dark circles greatly.

Fine Lines/Smile Lines: This foundation did reduce the appearance of smile lines on my face a lot, so it is a great foundation for those with more mature skin.

Coverage: This foundation gives medium coverage. You can layer it, but even when you layer it, you will not likely get full coverage. I got better coverage when I applied this foundation with a beauty blender, rather than my fingers.

Application: The applicator for this foundation is a plastic spatula, which I really like. I can easily clean off the spatula after every use or even put the foundation on a steel plate. So this packaging makes it more hygienic, and it is perfect for makeup artists.

When I applied this foundation with my fingers, I hated how it looked, but when I applied it with a beauty blender, it looked much better and smoother.

Wear: This foundation did not get oily through the day after hours of wear, so this makes it a possible option for those with oily skin.

Flash/White Cast: This foundation looked good with and without a flash, which is great! There was no white cast, so this foundation does do what it promises.

How It Looks On The Skin: This foundation looked smoother than Desert Beige did on my skin. My skin also looked more moisturized with this foundation, than it did with Desert Beige. This foundation does leave a bit of a sheen on the skin, so set it with powder, especially on the t-zone.

Dry Skin: This foundation did cling to the areas where there was extreme dryness. As a result, I think that if you have sightly or moderately dry skin, and you moisturize your skin before applying your makeup, this foundation will still work for you. However, if you have very dry skin, this foundation will not likely work out for you.

Application: The applicator for this foundation is also a plastic spatula, so the packaging is consistent in this makeup line.

This foundation applied smoothly for me when I used a beauty blender, as well as when I used my fingers.

Fine Lines/Smile Lines: This foundation did not settle into my smile lines.

Dark Circles: This foundation did reduce the appearance of dark circles.

Coverage: This foundation is medium coverage. I did get better coverage with a beauty blender than with my fingers, but it still did not reach full coverage.

Color: Even though this is a darker shade, it is still too light for my skin tone, but it is not too bad. When my skin gets lighter in the winter, this foundation should suit my skin tone just fine.

Final Thoughts

Honestly, I have mixed feelings about this foundation. In bright lighting and with a flash, it does not make my skin look very good. In dark or normal lighting though, my skin does look nice with it on and it has a nice glow. However, I feel that a great foundation will look good in everyday normal lighting, as well as with a flash, so I am not really into this foundation. I feel that my skin has definitely looked better with other foundations that I have tried, so personally, I will not repurchase this one.

This Wet N Wild Foundation is a cheap inexpensive foundation, and it does work fine. Not great, but it is okay, so if you are on a budget, you may want to get this foundation. However, if you want to give your skin as much of a boost as possible and want to look more perfect regardless of the lighting, then I think it is best to pay a few dollars more for a better foundation.

Have you tried any Wet N Wild foundations? What did you think of them?
