When it comes to makeup, eyeliner is by far a must for me. I could have no other makeup on my face at all, but as long as I have eyeliner on, I feel like I can take on the world. The reason for this is because I very much feel that eyes define our faces more than any other feature on our faces. Our eyes show our personality; they are the window to our soul. So for me, lining my eyes is putting who I am, my personality and traits, out there for the world to see in vibrant color. Wearing eyeliner is like putting my best foot forward, and over time, I have developed a preference for certain eyeliner looks. So, here are four of my favorite eyeliner looks.
Natural Single Line Eyeliner – Everyday Eye Makeup
Classic Half Double Eyeliner – A Romantic Eye Makeup Look For Dates
This eyeliner look is intense and it does require a bit of work to achieve. There are two steps to create this look. The first step is to follow the natural shape of your eye. Make the eyeliner thinner at the inner corner and much thicker and wider at the outer corner. I have almond-shaped eyes, so I drew the eyeliner in an almond shape. I drew the line downwards at the very outer corner but in a sideways triangle shape. Think of a wing, but going downwards and much thicker.
As for the second step, on the lower lid, I drew the eyeliner as close to the eye as possible/tightlining, but I didn’t apply it directly to the waterline. I also did not apply eyeliner at the inner corner of the eye. Instead, I applied eyeshadow there. The eyeliner on the lower lash line was made thinner as I got closer to the inner corner. Then, I stopped the eyeliner just a bit past the middle of the eye.
Thin Double Eyeliner
I absolutely love this eyeliner look. I tightlined my waterline here for this makeup look, but only on the lower lash line. To avoid irritating my eyes, I used an herbal kajal eyeliner to tightline my lower lash line. Also, in order to succeed with this look, you have to use really dark eyeliner. Many drugstore liners are not dark enough, especially if you have an olive, tan, or more golden brown complexion. Thus, I always recommend kajal liners for people with sensitive eyes and who want very dark eyeliner.
In order to get such a perfectly straight, dark, neat, and polished line as the one I drew on my lower lash line, you will have to go heavy on undereye concealer. The undereye concealer that I used to achieve this look is the Maybelline New York Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circle Treatment Concealer in the shade Medium.
I applied the Maybelline concealer all over my eye after applying an eye primer. Then, after applying my eyeshadow and eyeliner, I applied the Maybelline concealer again directly underneath my liner on the lower lash line. I didn’t use a brush to apply the concealer; instead, I applied the concealer with a sponge applicator to get a thicker application, and then I patted an extra layer of concealer underneath my liner.
Applying concealer directly underneath the eyeliner would serve as a barrier to help prevent the kajal eyeliner from moving around, as well as make the eyeliner look very neat, more perfect, smooth, and dark.
For the upper lash line, I drew my eyeliner so that it did not extend past the outer part of my eye. I made the line slightly thinner at the inner corner, but I focused on keeping the width of the eyeliner the same from the outer part to the inner corner of the eye.
Lastly, I did have to layer the kajal a bit while tightlining the lower lash line in order to get the liner as dark as I wanted, as dark as it is in the photos.
Thick Double Eyeliner
This eyeliner look is not for everyone and it does take a lot of practice to be able to draw your eyeliner thickly without smudging it all over your face. So, this makeup look is for more advanced makeup users. This makeup look is also popular among people who are into goth and punk fashion, as well as people from other parts of the world such as India, Turkey, and the Middle East.
In this eyeliner look, you follow the natural shape of the eye. The eyeliner forms a sideways triangle shape at the outer part of the eye. The eyeliner is thick all around the eye, including at the inner corner of the eye, so this is a very dramatic eye look. This look is great for parties or special occasions since it draws a lot of attention to your face and eyes.
In order to draw this eyeliner look, you have to follow the natural shape of your eyes, so if you don’t have almond-shaped eyes as I do, then your eyeliner will look different from mine.
I personally find this eyeliner look to be faster to create compared to all of the other eyeliner makeup looks in this list. The reason for this is because you really don’t need much precision to create this look; you just need to draw your liner all around your eye, from the inner corner to the outer corner. As long as you use a good eyeliner pencil that is smudge-proof, or you know how to smudge-proof your liner, then this look is not hard or time-consuming to achieve.
