It has been such a long time since I did a nail polish review, so today, I will be doing one for a popular well-known nail polish brand named Deborah Lippmann. If you are not familiar with Deborah Lippman, she is a famous celebrity manicurist who makes nail polishes for famous stars. She has worked with many celebrities including Taylor Swift, Scarlett Johansson, Kim Kardashian, and Lady Gaga. Deborah Lippmann works with many of the most famous fashion magazines including Elle, InStyle, and Vanity Fair. Knowing about her fame, I had to pick up some of her nail polishes to try out. So today, I will be reviewing two of her nail polishes: Between The Sheets and Whatever Lola Wants.
Cost: One of the Deborah Lippmann nail polishes can range in price from $6 – $20 apiece, depending on where you buy them. So despite that Deborah Lippmann is a celebrity manicurist, her nail polishes are not always expensive.
Amount of Product: You get .27 fl oz, 8 mL of product.
These nail polishes are made in the USA. You can find Deborah Lippmann nail polishes in places like Nordstrom and Sephora. Deborah Lippmann does not test on animals, and these nail polishes are made without formaldehyde, toluene, DBP, formaldehyde resin, camphor, ethyl tosylamide, or xylene.
This brand promises that these nail polishes will be long-lasting, quick-drying, and non-toxic.
Between The Sheets
This is a lovely dark fuchsia pink purple romantic shade. The formula for this shade is not watery and it is very pigmented in just one swatch. I used two swatches to reach full opacity. This nail polish applied easily, it was not messy, and it did not move around; it also dried quickly with a lot of shine.
Whatever Lola Wants
This nail polish is a glittery silver shade that has beige brown pinky undertones. This shade reminds me of what you would see during Christmas time. The formula for this shade is not watery, but it is not as thick as the shade “Between The Sheets” either. This shade dried quickly, but I did need several coats to reach opacity. I applied about 4-5 coats to get it as pigmented as I wanted it to be.
This shade does have a few issues. I found that this nail polish was a bit hard to work with. I had to apply it two different times because it was a bit messy to apply since I had to apply so many coats again and again. Furthermore, applying many coats makes this nail polish take longer to apply, and even though I had applied several coats, I found that this shade did not photograph well. This shade also looks more opaque in person than on camera, and it just does not look as pretty on camera as it does in person.
When it comes to removing this nail polish, you will need to scrub hard for a few minutes to remove it since it adheres strongly to the nail. This is quite common though for nail polishes that have a strong glitter base, and this aspect of it makes it really enduring and resistant to chipping and peeling; as a result, this shade should hold up nicely for several days, even without a top coat.
Here is how both of these nail polishes looked without a top coat four days later:
The shade Between The Sheets looked like the formula had the qualities of a top coat in it in terms of shine, but it is not as long-lasting as top coats tend to be. This shade will need a top coat because, without one, it peels off terribly and looks quite ugly by the second day. You could literally remove this shade without nail polish remover since you can peel it off. Therefore, if you want this shade to last, you will need to apply a top coat to it. Despite how ugly this shade looked after four days, it is still a beautiful shade, and even a salon manicure needs a top coat, so this is still my favorite shade between the two of them. I can see myself wearing this shade a lot.
The shade Whatever Lola Wants held up extremely well over the course of four days. You definitely do not need a top coat for this shade, so the formula for this one is truly a good mix of nail polish and top coat.
Final Thoughts
Between The Sheets is the shade that really appealed to me. This shade is a more unique color that I do not already have in my collection. The shine is excellent as well. I have a lot of glitter shades like Whatever Lola Wants, and the heavy glitter particles tend to make them very long-lasting over several days also, so this shade is not really unique. Furthermore, it took so many coats to get it opaque, and it does not photograph well, so I doubt that I will reach for this shade often.
Overall, the Deborah Lippmann nail polishes seem to be okay nail polishes, but I am not in love with them. Still, I will try a few more of them because, with many brands, the quality of the nail polish often varies by shade, so maybe these two shades were not their best ones. I will let you all know what I think later on as I try out some more of these nail polishes.
