Hello everyone! Due to Coronavirus, months went by and I could not get many international packages, but I was able to get packages from Japan; Japan was one of the few countries handling Coronavirus fairly well, so I thought that this would be a great time to try out some Japanese makeup products.
I love Japanese fashion, and Japanese people are very creative when it comes to how they apply their makeup. So of course, this made me curious about the quality of their makeup products. I have heard mixed things from other beauty bloggers about what they think of Japanese makeup, especially their eyeshadows. Some bloggers said that Japanese eyeshadow was more subtle and not as pigmented, whereas other bloggers loved it and felt that it was pigmented. So, I decided to find out for myself.
I researched online what the most popular Japanese makeup brands were, and bought a few of them, mostly eyeshadows and eyeliners. Today, I will review one of the most well-known and most popular Japanese brands called Canmake or キャンメイク Kyanmeiku in Japanese. I will review their Juicy Pure Three Color Eyes Palette in #9 Love Me Pink.
Cost/いくら です か: Japanese makeup is generally considered expensive, and some brands like Shiseido are high-end. However, Canmake cosmetic products are inexpensive, and this particular line of their eyeshadow palettes costs between $9.99 and $11.50 in most places.
The Canmake eyeshadow palettes that I purchased were bought on Amazon since international items are guaranteed because they are stored in advance in Amazon warehouses. アマゾンでこのアイシャドウパレットを買いました. If you buy international products a lot or need foreign goods going forward while the Coronavirus pandemic continues, I highly recommend getting them on Amazon because it is less likely that they will not arrive, or that you will not be able to get them because the country is on lock-down and no goods can go in or out of the country.
Ingredients/製品成分: The Canmake Juicy Pure Eyes Eyeshadows have an ingredient list of about 28-30 ingredients. There are some good ingredients in them including vitamin E, cinnamon, silica, and arginine.
Packaging/製品パッケージ: The packaging for Canmake eyeshadows is so adorable! Their designs are very feminine with ribbons, flowers, and sparkles; their palettes have a princess feel to them. At the same time, the packaging is not heavy; they are light and the palette itself still somehow feels simple. One downside to the packaging though is that the plastic does not seem heavy-duty. I feel that it is fragile, so I do not recommend traveling with these eyeshadow palettes.
Colors/アイシャドウの色: In general, Japanese people prefer their makeup to be more subtle with a focus on glitter and sparkle for femininity and everyday wear, especially when working at the office. Thus, you will not likely find wild colors such as blues and greens often among Japanese eyeshadows unless they are in more subtle shades such as light blue. Most Japanese brands focus on brown, pink, beige, white, purple, salmon, and orange eyeshadow shades.
Swatch Without Eye Primer
This Canmake eyeshadow palette that I purchased contains three colors, and all three of them have shimmer. The color on the far left is a salmon beige color with orange undertones. The middle shade is more of an eyeshadow topper than an eyeshadow, and it has far more glitter particles in it than any of the other eyeshadows in this palette. The middle shade also has white glitter in it and it has a hint of light purple. The last shade on the far right in this palette is the most pigmented shade out of all of these shades. This shade is the most beautiful and I absolutely love it! This shade is a dark fuchsia pink shade with heavy purple undertones.
Smell/臭いはありますか: These eyeshadows have no smell.
Far Left Beige Salmon Shade
I used an eye primer when applying all of these eyeshadows to my eyes. This shade just looked white on me when using a flash, but without it, it had more of a subtle salmon color to it.
Middle Shade
In this palette, this eyeshadow looked pink, but on my skin, it looked white when using a flash. This shade also changed to be more of a solid steel soft grey color with the flash like you see here. Without using the flash, this shade had much more of a glitter eyeshadow topper feel to it, as well as had undertones of blue and purple.
Dark Fuchsia Pink Shade
This shade is my favorite shade in this entire palette; it shows up extremely well on tan skin like mine and it is such a beautiful feminine dark baby pink purple shade. This shade is great for those moments when you want to look more romantic, such as on Valentine’s Day.
All of these eyeshadows have a subtle effect. There is nice pigmentation, but the colors have a very natural feel to them. The naturalness of these eyeshadows makes them great for the workplace and natural makeup looks. I also feel that these eyeshadows would be great for teens since they add a nice softness to the eyes. They are also easy to work with and apply, so they are great for new makeup learners and those who like natural makeup.
Final Thoughts/私 は この製品についてどう思いますか
I have mixed feelings about this eyeshadow palette. The colors are very natural-looking; they are not too strong so they are great for professional settings like the workplace. All of these eyeshadows are pigmented in some way, but only one of them (the dark fuchsia pink shade) looked true to color; it looked like what you saw in the palette, both with and without the flash. This fuchsia pink shade is the only shade in this palette that I can see myself reaching for again; it is definitely a beautiful stunning shade that I love.
This palette seems to have been designed to have the beige salmon shade and the middle shade act as secondary shades to compliment the dark pink shade, rather than to be used alone. Based on the instructions on how to use this palette that is on the back, the middle shade can be added as a glitter topper on top of another eyeshadow. I also think that this middle glitter shade can be used as a highlighter. The salmon beige shade on the far left is expected to act as a base color. If we follow this, then this palette functions well, so this is a multi-functional palette. If you use the palette in this way, I think that you will like it. If you want to use each shade as an eyeshadow like I like to, then this palette may not be very useful for you. So this palette will work for some people more than others based on how they like to use eyeshadows and how they usually apply their makeup.
