I love Indian kajal eyeliners, so I tend to go through a lot of them and collect them. The reason I like Indian kajal liners so much is because I find them to be darker than most drugstore liners, and they show up well on brown dark skin. Kajal eyeliners do not irritate my sensitive eyes either when most drugstore liners do. They also tend to have a much smaller ingredient list than most drugstore liners. Indian kajal liners are generally made from clean, organic, and natural ingredients like almond oil and castor oil.
There are many kajal liners available in India and the U.S., and many U.S. brands even make their own version of a kajal eyeliner. One of the most popular kajal liners in India is the Lakme Eyeconic Kajal. So today, I will review the Lakme Eyeconic Kajal in black.
When it comes to eyeliner, one of the first things that people look for is whether or not it is smudge-proof. Almost all eyeliners you can buy will say that they are smudge-proof, but usually they are not, so you will have to learn to smudge-proof your own eyeliner. I wrote an article on how to smudge-proof your eyeliner here: 4 Ways To Smudge-proof Your Eyeliner. This is normal because too many things can cause eyeliner to smudge, such as oily skin on the eyelids, watery eyes, allergic reactions to eye products or cosmetics, using products that are incompatible with your skin type, or applying eyeliner in a way that does not suit your natural eye shape. So, like most eyeliners, the Lakme Eyeconic Kajal is not truly smudge-proof.
Is this eyeliner waterproof? No, it is not. Here are swatches of this eyeliner:
I like how dark this eyeliner is. It really shows up well on my brown skin, so even though you need to layer the liner to get it dark, I still think it is excellent for those with brown or darker skin tones.
I applied this kajal eyeliner differently on my left and right eye to fully test it out. On my left eye, I applied this eyeliner directly on top of my eye after applying a light foundation to cover the darkness underneath my eyes. The foundation also acted as a base for the eyeliner.
The foundation that I used as a base is the Revlon Colorstay Whipped Foundation. This foundation does not crease, and it stays in place all day, so I recommend it over concealer for the under eye area to cover darkness and dark circles. I find that concealer often creases on my skin, so I started using a light foundation in the eye area instead, and it works wonders! If you are having problems wearing concealer underneath your eyes or it creases a lot, then I definitely recommend trying a light foundation instead!
On my left eye, I applied the Lakme Eyeconic Kajal, the Revlon Colorstay Whipped Foundation, and a brown matte eyeshadow. The brown matte eyeshadow that I used is the fifth shade in the Etude House Play Color Eyes In The Cafe Eyeshadow Palette called Coconut On The Beach. This is how this kajal eyeliner looks on my left eye:
This kajal looks darker and shinier when applied directly onto the eye without eyeshadow. This eyeliner also went on smoothly and was not difficult to apply.
This is how the Lakme Eyeconic Kajal looks on my right eye on top of only eyeshadow
On top of eyeshadow, the Lakme Eyeconic Kajal looks much more matte and the shine disappears. It was a bit harder to apply this kajal on top of eyeshadow though, and it looks a little less dark.

Final Thoughts: All in all, I love how the Lakme Eyeconic Kajal looks on my eyes; it really makes my eyes look more exotic! I love it both with eyeshadow and without eyeshadow. Most importantly, this kajal liner does not irritate my eyes at all, and it is very comfortable to wear.
Indian kajal eyeliners are so comfortable on the eyes, that I can wear them for hours and actually forget that I am wearing eyeliner. The Lakme Eyeconic Eyeliner Kajal really defines my entire makeup look, so even though it does smudge after a while, and it is not waterproof, I still highly recommend it. You can easily help smudge-proof this eyeliner by applying a black liquid liner on top of it, or by setting it with setting powder or black eyeshadow.
If you have never tried an Indian kajal eyeliner before, I highly recommend giving them a try. Kajal eyeliners are great if you have sensitive eyes, if you want to wear comfortable makeup for longer periods of time/many hours, or if you want to wear a liner that is natural, clean, and organic. I will review more Indian kajal eyeliners like this one for you all in upcoming blog posts on this site. I have many kajal eyeliners in my collection because I depend on them a lot, and they are so comfortable, so I am excited to share them with you all.
