Unclean Tap Water In Rich and Poor Areas In Developed and Developing Countries Including The United States

Most people know that in many foreign countries it can be hard to get clean water, especially in the developing world. However, one thing that many people do not realize is that even in developed nations like the United States water is not always clean. Many Americans even believe that the water that comes out of their tap (the water in their sink, kitchen, and bathtub) is clean. Unfortunately, tap water is generally not clean here in the United States, and the more economically disadvantaged the area is that you live in, the dirtier and more contaminated the water will likely be.

Even if you live in a wealthy area, if the area has a huge boom and many new people move into the area because of its reputation, things like water pipes will need to be worked on and more buildings will be created to accommodate the larger, sudden increase of people into the area. This means that there may be constant construction in that area that can last anywhere from a month, a year, or longer.

When water pipes are worked on, you will often get brown water coming out of them; the water may smell bad as well. Generally, wealthy areas are given more attention by government, but this does not guarantee that the water is the best quality. So given this, imagine how poor the water quality is in the poorest neighborhoods that are more poorly maintained and monitored by government.

An example of this contaminated water problem is the lawsuit that occurred for millions of dollars a few years back because the water was toxic and full of lead in Black neighborhoods in the United States. Here is a little bit of information about this lawsuit.

I am going to avoid a discussion about population control, hatred, and racism towards Blacks because this topic can get very ugly very fast, and to be completely honest, these topics make me very angry. What I will focus on and what is important here is for you to understand that regardless of whether you live in an upscale more well-to-do neighborhood, or you live in a poor one, the tap water should not be trusted.

Today, I am going to tell you exactly what is in our tap water that makes it so unclean and unsafe to drink.

Bacteria In Tap Water Can Make You Obese and Develop Skin Conditions and Health Problems

You can find all kinds of bacteria and pathogens in tap water, such as:

1. E. coli
2. Salmonella
3. Hepatitis
4. Giardia

In addition to these pathogens, you have to worry about mold, protozoa, heavy chemicals (metals), hormones, and even viruses in tap water.

1. Arsenic
2. Lead
3. Mercury
4. Aluminum
5. Cadmium
6. Chromium
7. Pesticides

Drinking tap water can also cause subtle side effects such as acne, headaches, or weight gain. More extreme side effects can occur as well that are common in waterborne illnesses such as diarrhea, stomach bloating, gas, cramping, pain, dizziness, and nausea. Mental impairment and the development of a disease can also occur.

A lot of people experience side effects from drinking tap water that they never connect to the water itself, such as regular gassiness, stomach bloating, cramps, headaches, and tiredness.

What Can You Do To Protect Yourself From Unclean Tap Water?

There are 4 things that you can do to protect yourself from toxic tap water

1. Do not drink tap water at all EVER ⚠ if you are at all unsure about whether it is safe to use or not. This is an especially important rule to follow while traveling to a new place or country where you are uncertain about the water quality.

2. Use hot water whenever possible When I bathe, I make sure that the water is as hot as I can tolerate to help kill some of the germs in it. This will not kill all of the germs because some bacteria can survive extreme heat temperatures, but it will at least kill some of them.

3. Put a solution in the water that will help kill germs in it or add a strong astringent to your bath soap.

In the old days, slaves passed down a method to purify contaminated water, which many southern Black families still follow today. Southern Black families use bleach to sterilize things and help prevent the spread of diseases from using shared items like cups and utensils. The government, the Department of Health, suggests purifying water with bleach on their website as well. I would never drink water treated with bleach though 😡.

You need very little bleach to purify water for bathing. The thing is though, I am not comfortable using bleach to bathe with all the time, so I alternate between using bleach and Barbara Frank’s Natural Herbal Lotion to purify my body and bathwater.

4. Put a water purifier on your shower head and all faucets in your home – This will help filter out some of the toxic chemicals and metals in your tap water.

Final Thoughts

Regardless of where you live, be hesitant to trust tap water because despite what you may think or believe, there is unclean water everywhere. Do not assume that the water you bathe with is completely pure either.

When it comes to drinking water, I only recommend drinking bottled purified water from stores. If the water coming out of your tap is at all questionable, if it smells weird, if it looks brown or is discolored, or if the government is working on the water pipes and there is a lot of construction in the area where you live, then it is best to be cautious and purify any water that you bathe with or drink beforehand.
