Then you might have come in contact with a new gene of lice called ‘super lice‘. Super lice have spread all across the U.S. and they are a huge problem because they can bald you quickly and expose you to deadly diseases. What Are Super Lice?

Super lice are like normal lice (also called a louse) in the sense that they live in the hair, on your head, or in your eyebrows, eyelashes, underarm hair, or pubic hair. Super lice are parasitic bugs/insects that live by feeding on your blood and dead skin cells. Humans and animals are food for lice, so we are their hosts, which means they feed and live off of us.

“Lice are parasites that live on the skin of an affected dog. They are actually a small insect that feeds by chewing on the skin of the dog or by sucking the blood…” (PetMD Editorial. (2012, October 22). Lice in Dogs. PetMD).

The adult louse mates with one another. They lay their eggs, which are called nits, near the hair shaft. Lice reproduce fast because adult lice try to mate with every other louse that is available and of a decent size. Then, the females will lay several eggs a day.

“Head lice incubation period lasts about a week (from 6 to 9 days exactly), which means that head lice eggs or nits hatch occurs about a week after eggs have been laid. Head lice eggs hatch to release a nymph. The latter resembles the adult lice, but of course, it is smaller…The adult stage is reached after approximately 7 days… from the laying of the egg to the emergence of adults are 17 days, and the adult will live for about 30-40 days…The lifespan of head lice when adults are about 30 days. This means that head lice, once they have reached the adult stage, will live for about one month” ( Source: https://headlicecenter.com/head-lice-life-cycle/

Lice can be found all around the world, but super lice are currently an epidemic in the U.S. In 2015, super lice were found in about 25 states, but in 2016, they were found in 48 U.S. states. So now, in 2018, they are very likely in every state across the United States.

Super lice are different from traditional lice because they have evolved and their DNA has mutated to become resistant to many current medicinal lice treatments.

Since these genetically superior super lice are now resistant to some of our current over-the-counter lice treatments like Nix, it is time to consider updating our current anti lice regimen by looking into new lice treatments, such as natural homeopathic remedies.

Symptoms/Signs of Lice

  • Scalp sensitivity, tenderness, or soreness
  • Feeling movement on your scalp
  • Scratching and itching
  • Hair loss and thinning
  • Balding: Partial or full alopecia

“With lice bites come itching and scratching. This is actually due to a reaction to the saliva of lice. However, the itching may not always start right away — that depends on how sensitive a child’s skin is to the lice. It can sometimes take weeks for kids with lice to start scratching. They may complain, though, of things moving around on or tickling their heads” (Head Lice. KidsHealth).

Some people who have lice have no symptoms. There is no itching or scratching, but the lice are usually physically noticeable and can be seen as flakes on top of the hair.

“The truth is, symptoms of lice are often the same as symptoms of dandruff or other scalp conditions. Then, kids may also have an active infestation without showing any signs of lice…there are very few symptoms associated with this condition…Just like mosquito bites, you may feel itchy, but you won’t experience any symptoms in your body apart from this one…Sometimes, kids can have an active infestation and not have any associated symptoms during weeks…Some people are not allergic to the substance that lice inject when biting the scalp, and will not feel any itching. This is similar to mosquitos or bees, the bites of which some people do not feel at all.” Source: https://headlicecenter.com/head-lice-symptoms/

In more extreme cases, people with lice may experience malnourishment, Anemia caused by blood loss, or develop a dangerous diseases called typhus.

“Several of the infectious diseases associated with human lice are life-threatening, including epidemic typhus, relapsing fever, and trench fever, which are caused by Rickettsia prowazekii, Borrelia recurrentis, and Bartonella quintana, respectively. Although these diseases have been known for several centuries, they remain a major public health concern…” (Badiaga, S., & Brouqui, P. (2012). Human louse-transmitted infectious diseases. Clinical Microbiology and Infection, 18(4), 332–337. https://doi.org/https://doi.org/10.1111/j.1469-0691.2012.03778.x )

Who Is Most At Risk For Lice?

  • People who travel a lot or who are around frequent travelers.
  • People who stay in hotels often can spread lice quickly to people they are around.
  • People with young children.
  • Students because of outbreaks in schools and classrooms.

  • People who work around animals and pets, especially sick ones.
  • Anyone who have a lot of hair on their body.
  • People who go to a lot of group functions or large events, since lice can travel on clothing and bags.
  • Anyone who has intimate contact with someone who has lice or who has been in the bed or shared hairbrushes and towels with someone who has lice.

“If you have hair on your head you can get lice. No shampoo, hairspray, jell, or lice deterrent product will work 100% of the time. More than 90% of lice cases come from head-to-head or hair-to-hair contact. You get lice when your head touches someone else’s head that is contagious. This happens through hugs, sharing pillows, taking pictures or selfies” ((2022, September 1). How Contagious Are Lice. Center for Lice Control).

How To Treat Lice

You might not like to hear this, but you need to de-lice regularly. When I say regularly, I mean at least once a week. I wash my hair once a week, and each time, I do a strong anti lice treatment to it. The reason for this frequency is because lice are so easy to pick up and they spread like wildfire. Every time people go to an event where there are a lot of people or pets present, there is a risk of bringing home lice. So, lice are not simply a hygiene problem; anyone can get lice, even if they are very health conscientious because you can get them from close contact with other people, and we all have close contact with someone. It is not practical though to stop hugging other people, to stop being close or intimate with them, or to remove all the hair on your body. Instead, the best option is to treat your hair, scalp, and body regularly with natural and organic ingredients that will kill lice and mites. Your hair and skin will be healthier and thank you for it later.

Step-By-Step Guide To Remove Lice

1. Use A Shampoo or Conditioner that is specifically designed to treat dandruff or lice – There is a shampoo that I recommend that makes my hair feel really clean called D Shampoo. In my opinion, most shampoos seem to focus more on hair damage and moisturization; they do not really make my hair feel squeaky clean, which is really important though when it comes to anti lice treatments. My favorite hair care routine is to mix the Natural Herbal Lotion with D Shampoo and leave it on my hair as a hair mask for at least 30 minutes every week.

2. Use The Natural Herbal Lotion – This product is amazing for anti lice treatments. You can dilute it since it is very strong, and you can also use it to get rid of things like fleas, ticks, lice, and other bugs that you find around your home or on your body. Generally, I like to mix The Natural Herbal Lotion with my shampoo and conditioner, as well as apply it to my scalp every other day to help grow out my hair.

The best way to apply an anti lice treatment is to apply it all over your scalp, and then apply some of it to the outer part of your hair. You need to do this every day if you have a lice outbreak or each time after going out to an event where there were a lot of people in close contact with you. You also should apply an anti lice treatment to your skin as well because lice eat skin cells, so they can be all over your body. So, you should regularly bathe with a strong anti lice astringent mixed with your bath soap to remove lice from your skin and hair.

3. Treat everything In Your Home for Lice – You need to wash all sheets, clothes, pillows, mosquito nets, teddy bears, towels, rags, etc. Anything that was used or touched that is not made of plastic or metal must be washed, and/or put in a dryer for at least 20 minutes on a high heat temperature. 30 minutes is best, but some items may lose their softness if left in a dryer for too long.

4. Wipe Down All Counter Tops and Surfaces that were touched while infected with lice with a strong astringent or cleaning agent like bleach. You can also use a natural alternative to bleach, such as the Natural Herbal Lotion. Along with countertops, plastic items must also be wiped off because lice eggs could be on them, so just as you must treat your body for lice, you must treat your whole home as well.

5. Spray All Furniture With A Lice Killer like the Natural Herbal Lotion. Bleach may damage some furniture, so it should be avoided on some furniture pieces like mahogany or couches that are not white.

Conclusion

Treating lice takes time and patience, and the new super lice are harder to get rid of than normal lice, so expect them to take even longer and require much more work to get rid of. In general, anti-lice treatments should become a regular part of your weekly routine for optimal health and wellness. Doing regular anti-lice treatments will make your hair and skin look and feel healthier, and it will naturally enhance your beauty and appearance. So, as you continue down this road toward optimal health, love your body and treat it as the temple that it is. The best way to do that is to clean and purify it well and often.
