My Top Best Favorite Japanese Desserts, Wines, and Sweets – Great Foods & Drinks From Japan

We all love sweets, and though some of us have more of a sweet tooth than others, it still feels good to eat fresh desserts. So today, I will share with you all my favorite sweets from Japan 🗾. My favorite Japanese 🎎 desserts 🍨, fruits 🍑, and wines 🍷.

Tempura Ice Cream 🍰

Tempura ice cream is amazing! Every time I go to a Japanese restaurant when I have a sweet tooth, I order tempura ice cream. Tempura ice cream tastes like a mix of cake and ice cream. It has a soft center with vanilla ice cream that is still cold or warm, and then a crispy outer part that tastes like cake batter, but it is not overly sweet.

Tempura ice cream can be eaten by itself, or you can order banana 🍌tempura ice cream, which comes with a fried banana in the center, and ice cream on the side to eat with it.

Tempura ice cream can be made with various ingredients including banana, vanilla ice cream, pound cake, chocolate syrup, flour, egg, wafer cookies, whipped cream, fruit as a topping, green tea ice cream, white sugar on top, caramel or strawberry syrup.

Black Sesame Ice Cream 🍦

Black sesame ice cream has a unique flavor that is hard to describe. It is just one of those things that you have to try for yourself. In my opinion, black sesame ice cream has a nutty taste that is sweet. It is also slightly bitter and it has the texture of chocolate.

Black sesame ice cream can be made with raw black sesame seeds or with black sesame paste. The paste is more concentrated so it gives the black sesame ice cream a much stronger flavor. This is what Japanese restaurants usually use to make their black sesame ice cream.

Since black sesame seeds are used to make this ice cream, it varies in color from black, charcoal gray, blue, brown, beige, to white with black sesame seeds on top. Usually, the darker the black sesame ice cream is, the more flavorful it will be.

Black sesame ice cream is made with cream, honey, brown sugar, egg yolk, whipped cream, roasted or toasted sesame seeds, milk, vanilla extract, black sesame paste, and salt.

Plum Wine 🍷

Plum wine is one of the best wines that I have ever tasted. This and Korean raspberry wine are amazing. I always recommend these wines to women. Every woman I told about these wines absolutely loved them. Plum wine is the perfect drink for women because the wine is made by fermenting real fruit to give it an intense strong fruity flavor that goes down smoothly. Plum wine also does not burn going down, and it does not give you a headache. Plum wine is also quite strong since it has around 15% alcohol content.

What makes plum wine unique is that the actual plum continues fermenting in the wine until you buy it and choose to drink it, so it becomes sweeter and more flavorful over time. When you look into a bottle of Japanese plum wine, you can usually see the huge Japanese plum at the bottom of it.

Ginger Ice Cream 🍧

If you are a fan of ginger, you will love ginger ice cream. Ginger ice cream has a strong flavor when there is a lot of fermented ginger in it. The taste of ginger ice cream is milder and muted if the ginger is old and not as fresh. When you buy ginger ice cream, you can sometimes see the cut-up ginger in it.

Ginger ice cream can be made with brown sugar, cream, cinnamon, egg yolk, fermented ginger, vanilla, milk, sea salt, candied ginger, vanilla extract, ginger root, and clove.

Dried Japanese Plum/Ume

Ume is the Japanese plum that is purple in color or it can be a yellow orange color. Japanese plums are very sweet and flavorful, but also tart. These plums are used to make plum wine, and in plum wine, they are very smooth, less tart, and very sweet since fermenting enhances the flavor.

Japanese plums can be eaten every day in the form of Plum Onigiri/Japanese rice balls (which I love), or alone as pickled salted plums.

Green Tea Ice Cream 🍨

Green tea is amazing, and for tea lovers, green tea ice cream is a definite must-try. Green tea ice cream can be made with actual green tea or with matcha, which is much more flavorful and concentrated compared to regular green tea.

Matcha is a beautiful forest green powdered green tea. For the most flavorful green tea ice cream, you should make it with matcha rather than with regular green tea. This will make the ice cream more fragrant and flavorful.

Other ingredients found in green tea ice cream includes eggs, whipped cream, sea salt, milk, and sugar

When you want healthier ice cream, green tea ice cream is definitely a great choice since it is made with simple ingredients, it contains less fat, and it is very flavorful and delicious.

Final Thoughts

I love Japanese foods, wines, and desserts. They are much less fattening, very flavorful, less sweet compared to American desserts, and they have a unique taste and flavor. If you have never tried Japanese desserts, foods, or wines, then I highly recommend trying them!
